Scotch Plains, NJ is a
mid-sized town in
the central area of New Jersey.
Bordered by Rt 22 & Rt 78, both of
which are major roads, running from the North East area of New Jersey
virtually adjacent to New York City and then crossing New Jersey all the way
to Pennsylvania. There is easy accessibility to Rt 287, the Garden State
Parkway and the New Jersey Turnpike.
Scotch Plains, founded in 1684, is
extraordinarily unique because at that time, a tract of land within the middle
of Scotch Plains remained separate, eventually becoming the area known as
Fanwood. Hence the names Scotch Plains-Fanwood or Fanwood-Scotch Plains.
Scotch Plains and Fanwood are
wonderful places to live and raise a family with one singular school system.
Our progressive school system is
second to none. A recent study by The Star Ledger rates our schools
within the top 15 in the entire state!
The system provides a seamless and thorough education
from our Pre-K intervention programs and Kindergarten through High School to
not only open doors for all our children, but to open doors wider with
educational opportunities for each student and special populations,
challenging programs and safe learning environments.
Originally home to the Leni-Lenape Indians, our ancestry and
colonial roots trace back to pre-revolutionary times. Scotch Plains
history includes haunted houses, Indian burial grounds, revolutionary war
stations, museums, ancient graveyards and other original structures from that
period.
